Baja Day 7- COCKTAIL NIGHT PART TWO

February 17, 2023

BOYS’ NIGHT- GIRLS’ NIGHT

Around 5:30 this evening, all four boys ventured out into the relentless gusting wind at sunset. Despite the cold, they hiked to a view overlooking the ocean, and us girls hung back at the vans. Perhaps with a little more common sense, and a little less sense of adventure, Chelsea, Kelsey, Cora, and I all sat around our dinette table and talked. Cora made us delicious homemade margaritas. I’m starting to learn that not only is Cora particularly good at making drinks, but she also really likes to do it! Zak and I don’t drink cocktails too often, so this is a welcome surprise.

The boys came back from their hike an hour or so later. To get out of the wind and join in on the fun, they piled into the van again for a second round of Cora’s cocktails. The girls sat in the back of the van tonight while the boys sat in the front, and we all drank Cora’s margaritas and enjoyed each other’s company. I love all the people that we are here with. Each couple is just different enough that we all bring something a little bit unique to the table. Tonight’s cocktail night lasted much longer than last night’s… probably until about 12:30am or so.

THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX

While Magnum and Kelsey were going back to their van tonight, they saw a mouse running under their van. Nobody wanted to have an unexpected visitor in the night, so we scooped him up in a Tupperware and brought him far away from the vans. (Don’t worry mom, I let the Tupperware soak in bleach overnight.) I nicknamed the mouse Despereaux, like from the book, The Tale of Despereaux.

PLANS FOR MOVING ON

We will be heading out from Playa la Gringa sometime tomorrow. We love being on the ocean and seeing all of the amazing wildlife here, but we want to go further south so that we can finally take off some of these layers! We want to make it to Guerrero Negro, which is the first big city (?) and the first city in Baja California Sur! However, I think when we get there, the time zone will change from PST to MST again. Can’t say we’re too excited to lose an hour. While we’re there, we want to get some groceries, fill up on water, get pesos, and potentially even go on a whale tour. We hear that the whales there are amazing! Maybe we will finally find some TelCel SIM cards too!
